INSOMNIA, AGAIN!!

I have written about insomnia twice; once again, I am up and don't feel like I am going to sleep. Tonight, it is essential for me to go to sleep early as I have Bible Study at 5:30 a.m. (it is now midnight – I am not getting much sleep!)

 

Have you ever experienced those nights when you are tired, get all cozy in your bed, and are wide awake with the weight of the world on your mind? Tonight, that is me.

 

I have tried several things, such as hot tea while journaling my thoughts, getting in bed and attempting to sleep, turning on soothing music, and crawling into bed again. None of these worked for me. Am I the only one?

 

No, I don't think so. My limited research (Chat GPT) found that 30% of Americans report having sleep issues.

 

What is keeping me up?

 

·      I drank a caffeinated soda too late in the day.

·      I played a game on the phone, but it was too close to bedtime.

·      I am stressing over needing to get up VERY early in the morning.

·      My heart is hurting for a friend who is dying of cancer.

o   She is on my mind much of the time, and at times, like tonight, I find myself ruminating over the situation.

·      I have friends who are hurting, and as I pray for them, I immediately wonder if I can do anything to improve the situation.

o   In most cases, there is nothing I can do except,

§  Listen

§  Pray

§  Be there when needed

·      I have issues myself that I must deal with, and those things are ruminating in my mind.

o   I worked through some of the things pertaining to me while journaling tonight.

 

Some of you may identify with some of those issues.

 

So, what do we do? I often get some of my to-do information from CHAT GPT, but I have printed those twice before. I will put a few things below that I have tried in the past. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't.

 

·      Have a bedtime routine – I have this to an extent, but I don't adhere to it as much as I should.

·      Go to bed, and if you are not asleep in 30 minutes, get up and do something you don't like to do so that you look forward to returning to bed.

o   I am not fond of correspondence, so I write cards to send to people I care about. I don't mind emailing, but actually writing, I don't like so much. It may be because I am a poor speller.

·      Drink some Sleepy Time Tea

·      If a lot is on your mind, try journaling and get it out of your system.

o   I do this a lot!

·      Go back to bed with some quiet music playing.

o   This does not work for me as I either enjoy the music too much or, if it has vocals, start to sing with it!

 

Those are a few suggestions.
