I am privileged to be the liaison for University High School’s Interact Club, which is connected to Fresno Rotary. I have just started this venture with the school and have met with the club’s board. I can’t wait to attend my first meeting with the club.
The school is having a fundraising event called Phoenix Phling. In this blog, I am providing information about the school to encourage you to attend.
University High’s Vision
Students will feel confident to express themselves.
University High School will be a 9-12th grade Liberal Arts high school on the campus of California State University Fresno where ALL students will experience an accelerated college preparatory program with two years of Latin and the full inclusion of music theory and performance.
The school culture will be caring, supportive of learning, promote understanding and encourage students to foster personal development. Students will feel confident to express themselves as they mature into young adults.
The school will address the academic, personal, and social development of the students while providing a solid academic foundation for a college career, with the goal that all graduates are prepared to enter the adult world where they will be ready to pursue any goal to which they aspire. In short, UHS will continually work to create for its student's nothing less than the best high school experience possible.
After that statement, there is little to say, but I have a few comments.
The Phoenix Phling is fundraising for student enrichment. The school provides opportunities for students to grow and succeed in many ways, such as
· Special activities such as robotics.
· Opportunity to attend college classes.
· Various clubs. The following is a partial list of clubs: Active Minds, Associated Student Body, Filipino Culture, Finance, Honor Commission, Multi-Media Group, Sailing, Sikh Honors and Service Society, Skiing, Social Advocates, Travel, Yearbook, and more!
University does provide academic counseling. The mission of the UHS Comprehensive School Guidance and Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental, counseling program that addresses the academic, career, college and personal/social development of all students. The school counselors at UHS are professional school advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement. In partnership with other educators, parents, and the community, school counselors facilitate the support system to ensure that all students at University High School are prepared with the knowledge and skills to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.
